During this time of virtual school, park closings and social distancing, it may be difficult to find engaging things for your children to do outside of schoolwork. We have rounded up a list of virtual programming offered by organizations in Sandy Springs to help keep kids active and inspired.
Theater classes from City Springs Theatre Company
The City Springs Theatre Conservatory, the educational arm of the City Springs Theatre Company, is offering free online classes for middle school and high school students through Zoom and Instagram Live. They kicked things off with a class on Broadway dancing using the choreography from Hairspray that was taught by David Rossetti.
Virtual art program from City Springs
City Springs recently launched a new virtual art program called Create and Connect Sandy Springs. Community members can participate by submitting a short video of their artistic talent, whether it is playing an instrument singing, dancing, telling jokes, drawing or some other art demonstration. City Springs will be sharing the videos on their Facebook page for everyone to enjoy.
Exercise and playtime ideas from the City of Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Department
The Recreation and Parks department will be sharing activity suggestions for different ages on a daily basis through Facebook. So far, they have shared tips on building forts, tricks to try with a hula-hoop, and a leg buster workout. Follow them on Facebook for more content.
Digital exhibits from Heritage Sandy Springs
Heritage Sandy Springs, a community museum showcasing the history of Sandy Springs, has two digital exhibits available on their website for guests to enjoy from home. You can learn the history of the Williams-Payne House through The House With Three Names exhibit and celebrate the thriving local Jewish community with L'Chaim Sandy Springs.
Recipes and cooking videos from Young Chefs Academy
In lieu of in-person classes, Young Chef Academy has started sharing cooking “how-to” videos and kid friendly recipes on their Facebook page for any young chefs of all ages to try out. They have also started a virtual club for their members where they will share exclusive classes, activities, tips and bonus recipes.
