We’re celebrating some of the many wonderful black-owned businesses in Sandy Springs, and the people behind them, who help make our city vibrant and welcoming for travelers. For this blog post, we focused on businesses that visitors might encounter during their stay, including restaurants, shops and event spaces. This is just a small snapshot of the many talented black professionals currently thriving in Sandy Springs and metro Atlanta. A long-time staple on the Sandy Springs restaurant scene, Chef Rob’s serves authentic Caribbean cuisine with a gourmet twist. Owner and Executive Chef, Robert Gayle’s, award-winning food includes braised beef oxtails, curried goat, ackee and saltfish; and his signature spicy jerk seasoning. Chef Rob’s has continued to expand his brand and presence in the community by offering private cooking classes, and special event catering.

Created by mother and daughter team Evanna and Zoe Oli, Beautiful Curly Me is a online shop offering dolls, sleep caps, toys, beauty products, and books designed for young black girls. CEO and Chief Muse Zoe inspired the products after she asked her mom if they could make dolls that girls like her could relate to. She wanted to help empower them to love their curls. The Oli’s are Sandy Springs residents who now sell products online at https://beautifulcurlyme.com/.
Cigar City Club was the dream of owner Julius Bolton, who wanted to provide metro Atlanta with an upscale, yet relaxed, cigar experience. This cigar enthusiasts club enhances their guest experience with a full bar and gourmet menu that includes steak, seafood, and several vegetarian dishes. It’s now a popular destination for guests looking to celebrate a special occasion or enjoy a lively night out on the town.

Young Chefs Academy is a children’s cooking school franchise with locations across the US. Owners Cameron and Arielle pride themselves on providing kids with a creative and hands-on way to learn about food and cooking. Magic Soul Food specializes in authentic Southern-style soul food, offering dishes like crispy fried chicken, smothered turkey wings, collard greens, and candied yams. Owner and Executive Chef, Shawn Williams, takes pride in making everything fresh daily and capturing the vibe of a delicious home-cooked meal. Owned by Ebony Hamlet, A Space in Time is an event venue located in heart of Sandy Springs. Hamlet skillfully renovated two spaces into adaptable suites that are available to rent for special events. Both suites are well suited for a variety of gatherings, including birthday celebrations, holiday parties, and wedding showers.

Twin Brothers Gallery is a charming art gallery and shop that celebrates African art and culture. It has a variety of art from east, west, central and southern Africa, including paintings, figurines, jewelry, masks, and sculptures. Owner, Abdoulaye Biteye, loves to share his vast knowledge and passion for African art and culture with his customers.

Candle Lit ATL, owned by Tasha Stylz, offers a unique and fun experience that combines creativity and relaxation. The idea for the business came to Tasha after searching for a chill, family-friendly activity in Atlanta. She shares, "One day I was googling things to do in Atlanta, just trying to find a fun and unique experience similar to the ones I’ve been to in other states. I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so I got this crazy scary idea just to create one." With a passion for family fun, she envisioned an experience where everyone—from kids to couples—could enjoy creating beautiful candles together. Candle Lit ATL hosts a variety of events, including date nights, girls' nights, family nights, and company parties, making it the perfect place for anyone looking for a memorable, hands-on experience. Private events are also available.

Namari Dance Center was founded in 2018 by Artistic Director Antwan Sessions. The center offers comprehensive dance education for students aged 3 to 18, with classes in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, and more. The facility features two studios: Studio 1 is approximately 900 square feet with marley floors and ample natural light, while Studio 2 is about 700 square feet with floor-to-ceiling mirrors. In 2019, the center expanded its offerings by introducing a Home School Program for students seeking additional technical training during the day. Namari Dance Center also established the ND2 Competition Team, achieving first-place wins at competitions such as Showstoppers and Believe.
