With a performing arts center and a sculpture garden right at the heart of the city, Sandy Springs is a community that has proven to be passionate about the arts. When COVID-19 forced people into their homes, local businesses and organizations dedicated to arts and entertainment naturally got creative. Check out what these Sandy Springs businesses have done to continue to bring the fun to their customers:
The Sipping Plant
The Sipping Plant is a BYOB craft shop that is perfect for date night, a girls day or even team building. They offer classes where you can make string art or build your own terrarium. You can now create your own decor right from home with their DIY Craft Kits.
City Springs Theater Company
City Springs Theater Company has been bringing Broadway to the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center since it opened in 2017. When their 2020-2021 season got interrupted, they adapted by creating shows that could be streamed by patrons. They are planning to return to live shows in 2021, but they are sharing virtual performance through the end of 2020.
Cafe 290
This local jazz and blues club is back open for live shows on the weekends, but Cafe 290 has also been sharing performances via Facebook Live. If you are a jazz fan, make sure to check out one of their shows in person or virtually.
Create Sandy Springs
Create Sandy Springs is responsible for the City's artistic and cultural programming. When events had to be put on hold, they launched a video series called Create and Connect Sandy Springs to continue to provide programming for residents. The videos cover everything from a tour of the sculptures at City Springs to food and drink recipes from Chef Tyrone at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. You can follow along on Facebook where the videos are released on Fridays.
La Dee Da Studio
The staff at La Dee Da has always been dedicated to teaching children in Sandy Springs about art, and now they are selling grab n' go art kits that are both engaging and educational. Though they have resumed their camps and classes, La Dee Da is still offering pre-orders and curbside pickup for their art kits. They have continued to expand these offerings to include fun seasonal projects the whole family will love.
Painting with a Twist (Twist at Home)
Don’t worry, Painting with a Twist knows that adults want to get creative too. That is why they are offering a take home canvas kit option. Pour a glass of your favorite beverage, set up a Zoom meeting with your friends and throw a virtual painting party!
Battle & Brew
Battle & Brew is a gaming bar that is known for serving up creative food and drinks and hosting themed events. They have continued to offer their popular weekly Geek Trivia in person and on Twitch so you can play along from home. If you order takeout from their curbside menu before playing Geek Trivia at home, it's almost like you are there! They have also recently opened a 21+ patio space on the weekends with a large screen for gaming and an area to showcase local artwork for those that want to visit the restaurant but are not ready to dine inside.
Sips n Strokes
Sips n Strokes wants to help you relax during this stressful time with their at home painting kits. These projects are great for all ages and are available in a variety of designs. The kits include sketched canvases, brushes, paint and a guide to painting on your own. All you need a little creativity!
Mastermind Escape Games
An escape room might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of art, but their new virtual games will bring pure entertainment straight to your home so we had to include it! While you can still enjoy the fun of playing an escape game in person at Mastermind Escape Games, you can also book an online game and play from anywhere.
The Springs Cinema and Taphouse
Okay, this one isn't available at home, but your personal vehicle is close enough right? The Springs Cinema and Taphouse launched a drive-in movie series this year that has been a huge success. Each weekend they show a variety of blockbusters, cult classics, and seasonal favorites outside in their parking lot with plenty of space between groups.
