2. Why is Sandy Springs the best area to stay in the Metro Atlanta area?

Sandy Springs is absolutely in the middle of all of the great Metro area attractions. Centrally located at the point where I-285 and GA400 intersect, Sandy Springs is a 20 minute drive to the Georgia Aquarium and the CNN Center, 25 minutes to Fernbank and Six Flags, 30 minutes to Stone Mountain and just an hour to the North Georgia Wineries in Dahlonega.

3. How big is Sandy Springs?

A cozy North Fulton County Community, Sandy Springs is Georgia's sixth largest city with 94,000 residents and is over 37 square miles with more than 20 miles of shoreline along the Chattahoochee River.

4. How did Sandy Springs get its name?

The namesake of the community, the Historic Sandy Springs, anchors the Sandy Springs Historic Site. The site has served as a central landmark and gathering place for the community since the time of the Indians. Today, it is home to the Williams-Payne House, the "Milk House", a Victorian style band shell, a deluxe two-hole privy, as well as spectacular historical landscaping and green space.

The Sandy Springs Historic Site is a public park, open from dawn until 8:00 p.m. daily at no charge.

5. Where is the Welcome Center?

Our Welcome Center is located at 5920 Roswell Road, Suite A-118. From I-285 take Exit 25 (Sandy Springs-Roswell Road), turn north from the exit onto Roswell Road and we are less than a half of a mile from I-285. You will pass through one intersection with a stop light, which will be Carpenter Drive on your right and Cliftwood Drive on your left. Just past that intersection, you will see on your left the entrance for Parkside Shopping Center. Take a left into the shopping center and our Welcome Center is down on your right, just below the Anne Frank in the World Exhibit.

6. What are the Welcome Center's hours of operation?

Our normal hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are closed on major Holidays and weekends. You will, however, find us at a booth with maps and area information at our many Sandy Springs' Festival and Events! Please stop by and say hello!

7. How can I get information about things to do around the state?

You'll find everything you need at our Welcome Center. In addition to maps and brochures on the many Metro area attractions, we have brochures from lots of great travel destinations and the attractions from around Georgia. Although, we cannot imagine why you would ever want to be anywhere except Sandy Springs, we can help you with that too.

8. I need help planning a meeting or group tour. What should I do?

We love hearing that. Sandy Springs is a great place to have your next meeting, as well as the best location for a group tour. We offer many complimentary services to make the planning process easy for you. 20. Is there a Natural Park nearby?

Yes, Sandy Springs is very fortunate to have three different areas of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. With many miles of hiking trails as well as shoreline on the Chattahoochee River, it is one of our favorite places to get back to nature.

21. Is there anywhere to ride my bike?

Sandy Springs is very cycling friendly! With bike lanes on many roads and bike maps for you to download from the website, we know you will enjoy the ride. If you are feeling a little competitive or if you would just like to be a spectator, join us in May for the USA CRITS Speed Week finals featuring the Sandy Springs Cycling Challenge.

22. Is there public access to the Chattahoochee River?

Yes, there is public access at several places. You can get to the river at the Island Ford (CRNRA Headquarters and Information), Powers Island Park or observe from the overlook at Palisades (Indian Trail) at the NPS sites or from Johnson Ferry on the Cobb County side. Also, there is access from our very own Morgan Falls Dam.

23. Where can we Picnic?

There are some great spots to picnic in Sandy Springs. There are picnic tables at Powers Island and Island Ford at the National Recreation Area.  Hammond Park, conveniently located near many Sandy Springs hotels, has picnic tables available and there is also a pavilion available for rental if you have a group. If you would like to spread a blanket or just enjoy a sandwich on a bench, you are sure to enjoy the beautiful gardens at Heritage Sandy Springs. With so many great eateries and food stores, please grab a sack lunch and picnic in Sandy Springs!

24. I love tennis! Is there anywhere I can play?

The Sandy Springs Tennis Center, located in the heart of Sandy Springs business district, is a lighted 24 court tennis facility. Named by Tennis Magazine as “one of the finest public facilities in the country”, this center serves as the hub for tennis activity in the Metro area. It is open to the public for hourly court rental fees.

28. Can I get an overview of the Sandy Springs area?

Here's where you get to be hands on so to speak. The Interactive Map is a good way to see some of the main roads in the Heart of Sandy Springs and to help you map your route around town. You will notice that many of the residential neighborhood roads have been left unmarked to keep you on the most direct route to your destinations. The map only covers the area we refer to as the “Heart of Sandy Springs” and the Perimeter Mall area.

29. Which hotels are near the major highways and Perimeter Mall?

The thing about our Turtles is that some of them are constantly on the move and it is hard for for us to keep up with them all. We have a Town Turtle Map with some of the Turtles we have found. 31. Which Turtle is your favorite?

Our favorite Town Turtle is Homer of course and he is located  at the Sandy Springs Welcome Center! If you want to stop by and take a picture with Homer to show to your friends, please do! Girlfriends, we have a treat for you! Foodies beware. From amazing authentic French to Indian cuisine with a flavorful blend and Italian dishes that make your mouth water, Sandy Springs has great eateries for you. Most of our hotels are within 5 minutes of Perimeter Mall and 10 to 15 minutes from Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza. Funny you should ask — the Punchline has been the Metro area's Number One Comedy Club since 1982. With more than a million customers entertained and more than 3,000 comedy performances, that is more than any other comedy club in Atlanta's history.

35. I don't want to drive to the mall. Are there other options?

Of course! Over half of the Sandy Springs hotels offer shuttle service to Perimeter Mall; we encourage you to shop 'til you drop! Perimeter Mall has Macy's, Dillard's and Bloomingdales as its anchor stores and offers another 200 specialty stores for your shopping pleasure. If your hotel does not have shuttle service, MARTA is likely a very good option as well.

42. Is MARTA visitor friendly?

Yes, MARTA – the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority – is a great visitor choice. Sandy Springs is the last stop on the MARTA rail and we think it is the only way to go – straight to the airport or any downtown event or attraction you may have in mind. 43. How many MARTA rail stations serve Sandy Springs?

MARTA has four rapid rail stations serving Sandy Springs: Medical Center at 5711 Peachtree-Dunwoody Road, NE, Dunwoody Station at 1111 Hammond Drive, Sandy Springs Station at 1101 Mount Vernon Highway and North Springs Station at 7010 Peachtree-Dunwoody Road in Sandy Springs.

44. Is there a fee for public parking in Sandy Springs?

As a general rule, no. There are no parking meters and we are not aware of any area that would require you to park in a garage, so you should be good to go.

45. Is there an airport nearby?

Sandy Springs is very well connected city-to-city nationally but also globally by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Offering 10 major and national passenger airlines, over a dozen regional airlines, three charter airlines as well as nine foreign flag airlines, the airport is roughly a 30 minute drive from most Sandy Springs Hotels.

Less than 15 minutes from Sandy Springs is Georgia's second busiest airport, Peachtree DeKalb Airport (PDK).
