Sandy Springs’ first annual “One Book, One City” event promotes literacy and builds a sense of community by engaging its citizens in discussions and activities around a common book. The 2012 selection, Rocket Boys , an autobiography by Homer Hickam, has captivated the American reading audience as it tells of six boys – sons of West Virginia coal miners – who dared to reject all limitations and resolved to take part in the race to space between the United States and the Soviet Union, ultimately winning the National Science Fair. All events are free and open to the public though some require registration.
