Jazz pianist McCoy Tyner bears a pedigree few musicians today can match. As a member of the John Coltrane Quartet, Tyner played alongside the master on original recordings of “My Favorite Things” and “A Love Supreme,” to name just a few, and changed the sound of jazz in the process. Tyner would eventually move on and explore new musical horizons on his own both as a composer and bandleader—even experimenting with the harpsichord and celeste in his work. Some 80 albums later, he’s still a leading light of the jazz universe. Now, his group returns to the Rialto with a special guest, GRAMMY-Award winning post-bop jazz saxophonist and composer Joe Lovano, whose long and storied career has seen him play alongside the likes of Chet Baker, Woody Herman, and Abbey Lincoln.
